With your son or daughter’s special day fast approaching its time to focus on what you are going to wear! For some moms this may seem like a daunting process because you have likely not purchased a formal gown since your own wedding. Here at Fabulous-Bridal we have gathered some helpful hints as you embark on this exciting shopping excursion.
A lot of moms get so overwhelmed by the thought of shopping for this big event that they put it off until the last minute, but it is in your best interest to start early. A mother of the bride/groom gown can take just as long as the bridesmaids’ gowns to arrive, which is approximately 4-6 months. If you are already short on time just ask your consultant which gowns will be the best option given your specific event date.
You Are a VIP
Moms need to know their value! If you are the mother of the bride you are considered the hostess of the event, so be prepared to dress the part. You want to be the second best dressed person there so keep in mind the level of formality of the event, but try not to outshine the bride!!
Know Your Locale
If the event is being held outdoors you probably won’t want a full length dress that will drag. If the wedding is out of the area and you aren’t sure of the details just ask the bride and groom, they will be happy to help (or search the internet for photos of other events that have been held at the same location).
Ask the Bride
The bride may have a specific vision of style or color that she would like to see on you, but most of the time they will just make recommendations based on the theme of the wedding. She may, for example, want the entire party in shades of blue and this type of information will really focus your shopping and help you have a more pleasant experience.
Communicate with your Future In-Law(s)
Traditionally, the mother of the bride selects her gown first but that is not a hard and fast rule of the modern day wedding. It is nice if you do communicate with one another so that you both feel comfortable in your choices. If you find that you are both interested in a similar color but are afraid you may step on each others toes, just embrace the similarity and go for a monochromatic feel with different tones of the same color family.
Always remember that Fabulous-Bridal is here to help!
